Tobacco kills 8 million people each year. In which 7 million people consume smoke directly and 1.2 million people indirectly as a result of secondhand smoke, According to the World Health Organization .

Smoking rates have decreased in developed nations during the past several decades, but have increased in developing countries.

World no-smoking day is celebrated on 31 May every year.

I will share some tips in this post to quit smoking.

What is Tobacco?

Nicotiana tabacum is the scientific name of Tobacco, and It is an agricultural product derived from the plant’s leaves. The common name in Spanish Is Tabasco.


 It is used to kill insects and as a component of nicotine in various medications, in addition to being directly used in cigarettes, snuff, and medicines. 

It’s a medication with modest narcotic characteristics that are regularly utilized.

In many places, it grows as an instant economic crop in agricultural production.

It is cultivated in Cuba, China, and the United States, and Pakistan is one of the world’s leading producers.

It is cultivated like other crops. The seeds are sowed underground in a nursery to protect them from the elements and pests, and plants are then transplanted to the fields.

It is a crop that is seeded either mechanically or by hand each year. When the tobacco harvest is ripe, the plants are dried, which causes several chemical reactions.

Tobacco plants are dried, cooked in a kiln, sorted, stored, and utilized in cigarettes, snuff, betel, and other tobacco products. Tobacco leaves are used as medicinal in both green and dried forms.

Tobacco production and export became a big industry when  Europeans arrived in North America, 

It has become a profitable traded product to support the widespread smoking habit. After research, it was discovered that it could be used in medicines. 

Tobacco used in cigarettes,  snuff, and its essence is used as a mild narcotic. It was the cheapest and mild drug in the United States at that time and it is used in medicines also. Tobacco production on a huge scale contributed to the US economy’s early growth.

After the American Civil War, the public’s demand for cigarettes increased, and the tobacco business grew as a result of the easier availability of manpower. Tobacco companies came as a result of cigarettes’ modern and easy source of nicotine, as well as their growing popularity, and the industry supported the US economy while dominating the international economy in just a few centuries.

In the twentieth century when scientific studies proved the harmful effects of tobacco on human health, the tobacco industry’s importance on the world economy began to wane, and other agricultural commodities such as cotton, wheat, and maize began to take their place.

It is categorized as a member of the nicotine family.

It is used in cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and shishas, among other things.

Also used in medicine, both as a green leaf and as a dried form. They’re also available in snuff, chewing tobacco, dipping tobacco, and other varieties.

Externally, Its dry leaves are used to treat skin infections and ulcers, as well as injuries and fractures.

Tobacco-leaf teas were used to treat intestinal worms, as a laxative, to induce vomiting (emetic), as an expectorant, to prevent fainting and vertigo, and to relieve migraines.

In the beginning, tea was produced from Its leaves to treat fainting, dizziness, and headaches. Its smoke has also been used to treat earaches.

Its leaves are used as an antiseptic and to stop bleeding from wounds.

Harmful effect

When you smoke more (consume nicotine), you risk COPD. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a long-term inflammatory lung illness that produces a blockage in the lungs’ airflow. 


It also harms those who are not a smoker but live around that person whose cigarette smoke harms them is called a secondhand smoker. 

It harms your lungs and your health system as much as the smokers themselves.  In developed countries, smoking is banned in places where other people are present.

Smoking can cause renal damage and raise the risk of kidney cancer. Chronic renal disease is considerably more common in smokers than in non – smokers.  



Smoking appears to increase the relative risk of influenza in elderly people compared to younger people. In a study of people 60–90 years old conducted in 1993, 23 percent of smokers developed clinical influenza, compared to just 6% of non-smokers. The flu was significantly more severe in smokers and needed bed rest.



Smoking cigarettes causes mouth cancers, including cancers of the throat, the tongue also. Smokers lose much more bone height than nonsmokers and also tooth decay and tooth staining.


Smoking more than 20 cigarettes per day doubles or significantly increases the risk of TB.

Some basic harmful effects even though internally, and it is also known as slow poison.

According to the World Health Organization, at least 5 million smokers die each year from lung cancer, heart disease, and other causes. 

If current trends continue, at least 8 million people will die from smoking-related causes by 2030.


Explain the risks of smoking to your children straight away, and make sure they don’t smoke.

Stopping adults from smoking in front of children is the most effective strategy to prevent children from smoking. Say no to smoking is a slogan.

But both are harmful depending on the nicotine amount.

Other names for hookah include water pipes, shisha, and so on. Smoking a water pipe distributes nicotine to the addictive drug, and the smoke is at least as poisonous as cigarette smoke, if not more so. It hurts you since you smoke for longer durations. It has become trendy and is often used in hookah clubs.

Chewing tobacco is a type of dried tobacco that comes in many forms, including loose-leaf and twists.


Snus is a wet, finely powdered snuff that may be consumed loose or in a pack. Putting smokeless tobacco between the cheek or lip and the gum is the most common method of usage.

Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar, Mysore, and West Bengal each have a tobacco research facility, with the central research institute in West Bengal. 

The Brazilian government has tried to restrict tobacco production but has yet to develop a successful anti-tobacco farming strategy.

Tobacco cultivation is the primary source of income for 135,000 family farmers. Through the Programa Nacional de Fortalecimento do Agricultura Familiar, Brazil’s government, on the other hand, gives modest loans to family farms, including those that cultivate tobacco.

How to quit smoking

The strategy or methods you use will determine how difficult or simple it is to quit smoking.

There are several methods for quitting smoking. However, selecting the optimal strategy, which was the key to quitting smoking, was difficult.

To begin with, many smokers try to stop themselves from smoking by self-control, but studies have shown that self-control does not work in quitting smoking. 

If self-control works in these situations, then any smoker will stop smoking whenever he wants.

That is why smoking is referred to as an addiction.

Several additional gadgets have been replaced by cigarettes, such as e-cigarettes, gum, and NRT.

To stop smoking, however, after spending the extra money on these gadgets, they do not assist in quitting.

There are a few actions that will guide you in quitting smoking.

                              STOP smoking

S: set a perfect DATE:

                                     First and foremost, choose a date when you will stop smoking. That moment will be in a week. And begin to encourage yourself to quit smoking.

T: triggers of smoking:

Remember when you smoke, such as when you’re driving, reading, or at work. Then get rid of the trigger that makes you want to smoke.

For example, if you smoke cigarettes while driving, you should adjust your route and walk and cover long distances by bus.

Once you’ve eliminated all other triggers, you’ll notice a reduction in your smoking addiction.

O: oust all smoking products from your life:

 Expel any objects or items associated with your smoking from your house, car, and business, after you’ve broken your trigger.

If your buddies smoke, you should avoid them for a week for your health and mental well-being. If you spend time with your smoking friend again, your mind will want you to smoke as well.

P: Prescription from a doctor

This period of your life (when quitting smoking) necessitates a visit to the doctor for your health since you may experience discomfort, tiredness, headaches, and a fever.

As a result, your doctor has prescribed some medication to help you with the symptoms listed above. After following all of these recommendations, you will be proud of yourself for the rest of your life for accomplishing such a noble goal as quitting smoking.
